The "New Moon" Luxury Mobile Homes 1954

These are actual brochures for the "New Moon" trailer which was debuted in 1954. It was the feature trailer for one of my favorite movies with Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz... The Long Long Trailer. You have to check it out!!! It's classic vintage 50's and such a great movie.

  1. I just watched this movie last week. It is one of my favorites! I love your pictures of the vintage trailers. My husband and I bought a 1963 shasta that needs to be restored. Until it is I just keep dreaming about decorating it and fun camping trips. Have a wonderful week.

  3. Hi here is a little trivia on the trailer. It sits in eastern Oregon near Baker city. And my husbands friend owns it now and the property it has been on for several yrs. Lee marvin stayed in it when they filmed the movie Paint Your Wagon there. We just watched the movie again last week!Fun!
I grew up living in a Spartan 35x8. My dad was a contractor for the railroad.
We had some friends that had a trailer almost just like this one.
So when I met my husband in 1959 he had a small trailer just like the one in your header. Old memories.

  4. My husband owns the property near Baker City, OR (70 miles away actually, between Ukiah and Granite. The 1954 New Moon trailer has been sitting on the property for 55 years now. My husband's dad bought it in the 70's for a hunting cabin. They used it for storage mostly but slept in it when the weather was really cold. Recently, a real cabin has been built on the property and the trailer must be removed. My husband's uncle is going to demolish it next week. Is there anyone who has an interest and ability to save it? I always thought it was really charming but the guys always thought it was a great place to cram in tents and hunting gear so they didn't keep it up. It would need some restoration for sure but has a lot of potential! Please contact me if you really think you can remove this trailer without demolishing it and it's yours! lmhickson@yahoo.com

  5. I love that movie. I've watched it so many times.

I loved seeing how it was to be in a "park" with all the other trailers.

  8. A friend of mine recently returned from a camping trip in upstate New York. He brought photos of the perfectly restored New Moon trailer that was in the film the Long, Long Trailer. Could this really be the actual rig and not just a similar model?
Apparently the new owners live in it and it is absolutely beautiful. I have photos.

    1. Michael, if it's the trailer that I'm thinking of, no it's not the original from the movie.
