One of my favorite movies is the "Long, Long, Trailer" with Lucy Ball and Dezi Arnez. In the movie it features the "New Moon" trailer. This is the brochure from that actual trailer. If you have never seen the movie it's a must. I think now it's available on DVD. It's so classic vintage!!
Nancy, these vintage trailer advertisments are a hoot. They make that trailer look huge! I just checked, and that movie, "The Long, Long Trailer" is available to rent on Netflix. It was produced in 1954. I just bumped it up to the top of my queue. Yipee!

I was just thinking about that movie the other day and will have to rent it from Netflix...so funny!
ReplyDeleteI've watched that movie so many times. Love it.
ReplyDeleteWhen my hubby and I first got married we looked at a NEW MOON mobile home to buy
Thanks for the memory! My Mamaw moved to Florida and lived in a New Moon trailer. I spent many weekends sleeping on what she called her Davenport. It was a sofa that easily turned into a bed. Just looking at the picture in the brochure has made me a tad melancholy. Great old booklet!~Ames
ReplyDeleteAnybody know what happened to the original trailer from the movie?
ReplyDeleteMy mother told me it ended up in the junk yard in Glen Aubrey, NY. Someone set fire to it and it was destroyed.
DeleteI’ve always been told my grandmother bought it. She lived in Las Vegas.
DeleteI am now 74...Just as WWII was ending my parents 'traded' the house my Dad built for a New Moon trailer and some cash and hauled us all across the country...NY to CA! A car sick 7 year old, a rambunctious 2 year old and a baby in diapers. We had a big Cadillac with theatre seats because it was "the only car with brakes enough to hold the trailer back in the Rockies."
ReplyDeleteWhat a trip. Take a look at "It's My Life" at http://elzbieta-zemaitis.artistwebsites.com
I painted the small, roundish trailer as I recall it in one of the paintings...I was amazed to find your sight and insight as I searched "New Moon trailer" on a lark. Wish I had one to paint in!
You have outdone yourself this time. It is probably the best, most short step by step guide that I have ever seen. dumpster rentals Cedar Park
